Twins sign lefty Zach Duke to one year deal

Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have signed left-handed pitcher Zach Duke to a one-year contract.

Duke, 34, has played 13 seasons in the major leagues with Pittsburgh, Arizona, Washington, Cincinnati, Milwaukee, Chicago-AL and St. Louis.  He spent 2017 with the Cardinals, going 1-1 with a 3.93 ERA (18.1 IP, 8 ER), six walks and 12 strikeouts in 27 games.  He missed most of the first four months of last season recovering from “Tommy John” surgery on his left elbow, a procedure he had done in October of 2016.

The Clifton, Texas native has appeared in 468 career games (169 starts), going 61-85 with a 4.54 ERA (1284.2 IP, 614 ER), 380 walks and 785 strikeouts.  Since 2012, he has posted a 3.18 ERA (243.2 IP, 86 ER) with 248 strikeouts and a .229 opponent batting average in 287 games.
