The Twins lost their second straight game, dropping a 5-4 decision to the Angels Monday night at Target Field. Jose Berrios took the loss for Minnesota dropping his record to 6-and-2. Jorge Polanco and Marwin Gonzalez each hit two-run homers to account for the Twins four runs.

TWINS NOTES:

  1. THE TWINS received the loss in tonight’s series opener against the Angels 5-4 dropping their overall record to 25-15…slipped to 10-4 in series openers and 4-4 against the American League West…are now 9-6 over their last 15 games.

  2. Induced three groundball double plays, the most this season…recorded 3+ double play balls three times last season, the last time being on September 11 vs. New York-AL.

  3. Allowed a season-high tying 15 hits, matching the total from April 30 vs. Houston.

  4. JOSÉ BERRÍOS received the loss tonight, dropping to 6-2 and snapping his career-high five-game winning streak to six games (in each of his last six starts) after allowing five runs on 12 hits (career-high) in just 5.2 innings pitched.

  5. Walked Shohei Ohtani and Andrelton Simmons in the first inning, marking his first free passes to a batter since April 20 (Game One) at Baltimore when he walked Dwight Smith Jr. to leadoff the bottom of the fifth inning…snapped a streak of 87 batters without a free pass, the longest active streak in the Majors…raised his BB/9 rate to 1.68, tying him for second-best in the American League with Tyler Glasnow, trailing only Cleveland’s Carlos Carrasco.

  6. Allowed a career-high 12 hits tonight, surpassing his previous high of nine, done thrice, last being July 29, 2018 at Boston.

  7. Allowed three runs (or more) in a start for just the third time all season (last: April 20-G1 at BAL).

  8. JORGE POLANCO connected for his eighth home run of the season on an 0-1 pitch from Tyler Skaggs in the first inning…came off the bat at 105.4 MPH, tying the third hardest homer of his career…also notched his sixth career home run in the first inning, the most of any inning, and first since August 22 of last year at Chicago-AL.

  9. Marked his first home run off a left-handed starter this season.

  10. Collected his team-leading 13th multi-hit game this season, two ahead of Schoop, in just the team’s 40th game this year.

  11. BYRON BUXTON collected another hit with a single in the second inning and has recorded a hit in seven of his last nine games, in which he’s batting .355/.412/.516 (11-for-31) with five doubles and three walks.

  12. MARWIN GONZALEZ connected for his fourth home run of the season, a 395-foot shot to leftfield, as a right-handed hitter…extended his hitting streak to six games and is slashing .385/.478/.564 over his last 11…he is now 7-for-his-last-18 vs. left-handed pitching after beginning the season 0-for-9.

  13. EDDIE ROSARIO went 2-for-4 and has now hit safely in eight of his last nine games after going 0-for-28 from April 26-May 4…is slashing .324/.306/.500 (11-for-34) with two home runs and seven RBI in that stretch.
