Vikings re-sign RB Matt Asiata

The Minnesota Vikings on Wednesday announced that they have re-signed running back Matt Asiata to a new contract. Asiata, who has appeared in 58 career games, made 10 starts in his first 4 seasons with the Vikings. The University of Utah standout joined the team as a rookie free agent in 2011, spending the opening week of the season on the practice squad, then was out of football until the 2012 offseason. In 2014, Asiata posted career-bests in starts (9), rushing attempts (164), rushing yards (570), rushing TDs (9), receptions (44), receiving yards (312) and TD receptions (1). Asiata’s 9 rushing TDs were tied for the 3rd-most in the NFL during the 2014 campaign and his 64 points scored was tied for the 9th-most points in the NFC for non-kickers. His 3 career contests with 3 rushing TDs are the most of any undrafted player in their first 3 seasons in the common draft era (since 1967). In 2015, Asiata totaled 112 yards on 29 carries and notched 19 receptions for 132 yards in 16 games.
