Vikings headed back to London in 2017

Eden Prairie, MN (December 13, 2016) – As part of the NFL’s London Games, the Minnesota Vikings will return to the United Kingdom in 2017, this time to face the Cleveland Browns in Twickenham Stadium.

The Vikings will participate as the visiting team in one of four total games set to take place in London next season, the first in which the NFL will play half of a home schedule of regular season games in the UK capital. The game will be played in either Week 7 (October 22, 2017) or Week 8 (October 29, 2017). Final details will be available when the full 2017 NFL schedule is released.

“We are honored to once again represent the NFL on a global level and help grow the game of football,” said Vikings Owner/President Mark Wilf. “This is a unique opportunity to continue highlighting the Vikings brand on an international stage and to give our fans around the world another opportunity to see their favorite team up close.”

The game will mark the Vikings second regular season experience in London, having previously played as the home team in a 34-27 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers at Wembley Stadium on September 29, 2013. The Vikings have participated in five total international games, including four exhibitions and the 2013 regular season matchup.

Since games in London began in 2007, 23 teams have played 17 regular season games in the United Kingdom over the past 10 years, and the series’ popularity continues to grow. The UK fan base now includes more than 13 million people, while Sunday viewership has doubled and the Super Bowl audience has grown by more than 75%.
