Twins woes continue; lose 8-2 to Reds and option Duffey to AAA

THE TWINS the Twins lost the third of the three-game series against the Reds today 8-2…they are now 6-5 at Target Field this year. The Twins have now lost three straight series’.

Minnesota’s interleague record is now 2-3 this season and 205-182 all time, with a 114-79 record at home…Twins lost their first Interleague series since getting swept in Los Angeles in three games July 24-26, 2017, having gone 4-0-2 since…

  1. JOSÉ BERRÍOS allowed four runs on five hits in his sixth start of the season…lasted only 3.0 innings, his shortest start since September 11, 2016 vs. Cleveland, when he went just 2.2 innings…allowed three walks in the game, entering today’s game he had allowed only three walks this season, giving him a BB/9 ratio of 0.85, third lowest in the majors…he did not strike out a batter in today’s game, marking just the third time in his career he hasn’t recorded a strikeout in a start (last, August 12, 2017 at Detroit)…his home-scoreless streak of 14.0 innings was snapped in the first inning when Jose Peraza scored.

  2. EDUARDO ESCOBAR (2-for-4) extended his hitting streak against NL opponents to eight games…also extended his current hitting streak to six games, batting .421 (10-for-23)…hit a double in the second inning, his 14th extra-base hit and 11th double of the season…entering the game he led the team in both categories.

  3. JOE MAUER (1-for-3) extended his on-base-streak in Interleague games to nine, batting .441 (15-for-34) with six walks during the streak…is batting .321 (271-for-844) in 231 career Interleague games…with a walk today in the eighth inning, he has walked five times in this series…entering today his 11 walks ranked second in Interleague games among active players.

  4. MATT MAGILL made his Twins debut today in the fourth inning after having his contract selected yesterday…he allowed two inherited runners to score in the fourth, but no runs of his own in 2.1 innings.

Cincinnati NOTES:

  1. THE REDS won the third game and the series to the Twins…are now 12-12 against the Twins all-time and are 2-1 at Target Field…this marked the first Interleague road series win of at least three games since a 3-0 series sweep at Houston in September 2013…prior to this win the Reds were 0-9 in Interleague road series of at least three games and 4-23 in games in those series…with Adam Duvall’s home run in the seventh, marked the seventh straight game in which the Reds have hit a home run, their longest streak of the season…their 14 hits are the second most of any game this season…finished series with 30 hits.

  2. JOSE PERAZA (3-for-5) extended his season-high hit streak to seven games…he is hitting .337 (32-for-95) during the streak…his three-hit game today is the second of the streak, he also has one two-hit game and one four-hit game…this marked his eighth multi-hit game of the season, which ranked second-most on the team entering today’s game (Gennett, 8)… batting .533 (8-for-15) with 2 HR, 3 RBI, 4 R during this series against the Twins.

  3. TYLER MAHLE made his longest career-start, going 6.1 innings and striking out seven, tying his second most strikeouts (most, 11, April 24, 2018 vs. Atlanta)…he has made two consecutive starts into the seventh inning, the first time in his career he has pitched into the seventh.

  4. JOEY VOTTO (1-for-3) extended his on-base streak to 14 games, batting .298 (14-for-47) with 15 walks during the streak.

  5. JESSE WINKER (2-for-5) extended his on-base-streak to 15 games with a single in the first, batting .333 (15-for-45) with seven walks during the streak.

  6. ALEX BLANDINO (1-for-5) extended his career-high hitting streak to seven games with a single in the fourth batting, .385 (10-for-26).

  7. SCOTT SHEBLER (1-for-5) hit a single in the fourth inning, extending his hitting streak to five games…during his streak is hitting .333 (7-for-21).

  8. ADAM DUVALL (1-for-5) has now reached base safely in each of his last seven games…his home run in the seventh was his first of the streak and ties Joey Votto for most on the team (4).

  9. SCOOTER GENNET (2-for-5) hit a double in the third inning, extending his hitting streak to six games and is hitting .393 (11-for-28) over the streak.

Duffey sent to AAA Rochester

The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have optioned right-handed pitcher Tyler Duffey to Triple-A Rochester. Duffey appeared in three games for the Twins, allowing nine runs (8 earned) on 11 hits in 5.1 innings pitched.

The Twins will make a corresponding roster move prior to tomorrow night’s game vs. Toronto.
