Twins trade Aaron Hicks to Yankees

Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have acquired catcher John Ryan Murphy from the New York Yankees in exchange for outfielder Aaron Hicks.

The 24-year-old spent the entire 2015 season with the New York Yankees, hitting .277 (43-for-155) with nine doubles, one triple, three home runs, 14 RBI and 21 runs scored in 67 games. Murphy, who was drafted by the Yankees in the second round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, is a career .267 (70-for-262) hitter with 14 doubles, four home runs and 24 RBI in 115 career major league games.

Hicks, who was originally drafted by the Twins in the first round (14th overall) of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft, split last season between Minnesota and Triple-A Rochester.  The 26-year-old appeared in 247 career games with the Twins from 2013-2015.
