Twins put Phil Hughes on DL; recall Tyler Duffey

Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they plan to place right-handed pitcher Phil Hughes on the 15-day disabled list with lower back inflammation (retro 8/10).

To replace Hughes on the 25-man roster, the Twins plan to recall right-handed pitcher Tyler Duffey from Triple-A Rochester to start Saturday. Duffey made his major league debut August 5 at Toronto and was optioned following the start. The Houston-native has posted a 7-8 record with a 2.54 ERA (138.0 IP, 39 ER), 30 walks and 122 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .228 batting average between Double-A Chattanooga and Triple-A Rochester this season.
