Minneapolis, MN Ahead on the cards heading into the 7th round in his welterweight fight with Janer Gonzalez Saturday night at the Armory in Minneapolis, Jamal James didn’t need to fight any further as Gonzalez did not answer the bell for the 7th round.
James ended round six with a flurry of punches that sent Gonzalez to the canvas for the first time. Gonzalez had won only won of the first six rounds and was a clear 10-8 loser in the 6th. He was clearly dazed and saved by the bell in the 6th when his corner threw in the towel. With the win James, who is currently ranked #3 in the world by the World Boxing Association, moves his career record to 25-1-1.
After the fight, James was asked about getting a title shot and he said he was anxious to get that opportunity.
Gonzalez, who is a native of Columbia, loses just his second career fight in 22 outings.
