Gophers open NCAA’s with 10-1 route

The University of Minnesota baseball team celebrated their first home NCAA tournament game in 18 years by pounding Canisius 10-1 at Siebert Field Friday night. Minnesota was led by Terrin Vavra and Toby Hansen who each had three hits apiece in the Gopher’s victory.

Minnesota scored five times in the second inning and added three more in the 5th enroute to the win. Gopher pitcher Reggie Meyer allowed just 5 hits while striking out six in 8 innings of work.

Minnesota will play UCLA Saturday at 7pm in the winner’s bracket while Canisius will meet Gonzaga at 1pm in a loser’s bracket elimination game.
