Fun Facts from Tuesday’s Twins Marathon Win over Boston


THE TWINS won 4-3 in 17 innings, marking the longest game by innings in Target Field history (previous long was 15-inning games on May 18, 2017 vs. Tampa Bay and June 17, 2012 vs. Milwaukee)…at 5:45, the game was tied for the fourth-longest in Minnesota history (matching a 14-inning contest May 17, 2002 at New York-AL) and was the second-longest in Target Field annals (the 15-inning game against Tampa Bay on May 18, 2017 was the longest in Twins history at 6:26).

  1. Used a total of nine pitchers in tonight’s contest, the most used this season and the most since April 18, 2018 vs. Cleveland, where eight pitchers made an appearance in a Twins 2-1 win at Target Field.

  2. Collected their first walk-off win of the season.

  3. MAX KEPLER recorded his third career walk-off hit (fifth RBI, also with a fielders’ choice and hit-by-pitch), delivering an RBI single in the bottom of the 17th inning that scored Eddie Rosario.

  4. Also tied the game at 2-2 with a two-out, RBI single in the bottom of the eighth, and at 3-3 with a leadoff homer in the bottom of the 13th…his eighth-inning RBI was his 23rd of the season with two outs (entered tonight tied for fifth in the AL with 22).

  5. Hit his 23rd two-out RBI of the season with a double down the rightfield line in the eighth inning to even the game at two apiece…entering play today, he was tied for fifth in the AL in two-out RBI with 22.

  6. Finished the game 3-for-5 with a walk after pinch-hitting in the sixth inning.

  7. ZACK LITTELL earned his first Major League win this evening after throwing 2.0 innings of two-hit baseball with no earned runs and two strikeouts…escaped a runner on third, no-out jam in the top of the 17th by retiring the 3-4-5 hitters in order (struck out J.D. Martinez, then got Rafael Devers and Xander Bogaerts to ground out).

  8. EDDIE ROSARIO matched his career high with 3 doubles tonight (second time, last: July 25, 2015 vs. NYY)…he becomes the seventh Twins player to have multiple 3-double games in his career…the others: Joe Mauer and Denny Hocking (3 apiece); Zoilo Versalles, Chuck Knoblauch, Gary Gaetti and Michael Cuddyer (2 each).

  9. THE BULLPEN pitched 11 innings tonight, allowing two runs (both earned) on 12 hits, with just one walk and 12 strikeouts.

  10. MICHAEL PINEDA was the starter but did not factor in the decision, (his fourth consecutive) after allowing just one run on five hits over 6.0 innings…marks his second consecutive start allowing only one run over 5.2+ innings pitched.

  11. JORGE POLANCO extended his career-long on-base streak to 32 straight games with a single in the sixth inning, dating back to May 13, hitting .328 (44-for-137) with a .382 on-base percentage…marks the longest Twins streak since Brian Dozier reached in 34 straight from September 12, 2017-April 23, 2018.

  12. C.J. CRON drove in the Twins first run of the game with a fourth inning single…it marked his 47th RBI this season, second to Eddie Rosario (52) on the team…in his last 25 games overall, he is hitting .327 (34-for-104) with 12 doubles, six home runs and 24 RBI.

  13. Snapped a streak of seven games without drawing a walk, his longest span of games without a walk this season.

  14. MIGUEL SANÓ struck out five times this evening becoming just one of seven Twins to ever do so:  Bob Allison – September 2, 1965 vs. Detroit, Sandy Valdespino – August 9, 1967 vs. Washington, Bobby Darwin – May 12, 1972 vs. Milwaukee, Roy Smalley – August 28, 1976 at Cleveland, Max Kepler – September 14, 2016 vs. Chicago (AL), Brian Dozier – July 30, 2017 at Oakland.
