Concordia-St. Paul’s Laudet a finalist for Fred Mitchell placekickers award

CHICAGO, Ill. – Concordia-St. Paul kicker/punter Danny Laudet will continue the Golden Bear football legacy of nationally-recognized placekickers, being named a Fred Mitchell Award Top-10 Finalist.

Laudet joins former teammate Jonas Schenderlein (2017 & 2018) and 2014 Mitchell Award winner Tom Obarski as the program has had a national finalist four times in the past six years.

The Fred Mitchell Most Outstanding Placekicker Award recognizes placekickers for their excellence on the football field for the 2019 season and for continued community service during their collegiate careers. The recipient of the 2019 Fred Mitchell Award will be announced in mid-December.

Laudet is one of three NCAA Division II kickers in the finalist pool, joined by Dante Brown of Fort Hays State and McLean Robertson of Wingate University. The 12-player finalist pool is also comprised of five kickers from the FCS level and four from the Division III ranks.

Concordia University, St. Paul – NCAA Division II (NSIC)

Junior from Cabas, France … after serving strictly as a punter in his first two years in the program, he handled both duties in 2019 following eight years of placekickers honored by Mitchell Award lists … ranked sixth in NCAA Division II in most field goals made with 1.55 per contest, second-best in the Northern Sun … ranked 42nd in the country and seventh NSIC with a 73.9% field goal percentage … led the team and ranked sixth in the league in scoring with 76 points … was one of four players in Division II to make five field goals in a single game (5-for-5), making three clutch kicks on the road at St. Cloud State (10/5): game-tying FG in the fourth quarter, go-ahead FG in the fourth quarter and a go-ahead FG in overtime in an 18-15 road loss … the 5-for-5 performance is the only recorded 5-for-5 FGM game in Northern Sun recorded history (back to 1998) and the 5 FGM ties an NSIC record, establishing a new Concordia single game record … the 15 points at SCSU is a CSP single-game record and the NSIC single game high in 2019 … made at least one field goal in 10 of 11 games and had four games with 2+ field goals made … did not miss a PAT in 25 attempts … was NSIC Special Teams Player of the Week in week four win at Wayne State (9/28), converting 2-of-2 field goals with a long of 49, delivering touchbacks on 5-of-6 kickoffs and making both PATs in addition to his punting stats … his 49 yard FG at Wayne State was the second-longest FGM in the NSIC on the year … volunteers with Chris Husby of Special Teams Football Academy, developing and working with younger kickers including via text and social media direct messaging, weightlifting and breakding down film … volunteers with his family for Operation Christmas Child, setting up a fall party to invite friends and family to contribute gifts to send to children around the world and pack 30-40 additional boxes that are funded by his family … visits Children’s Hospital, dressing up in costumes with family handing out stuffed animal turtles to raise their spirits.
