Robbinsdale Falls one short

An incredible run by Robbinsdale's Little Leaguers fell one run short of a trip to the Little League World Series as they lost to Davenport Iowa Sunday night 5-4 in the Midwest Region Final.

Robbinsdale led the game 1-0 in the second when Sam Mayes got the first of his two hits on the night, a bases loaded single to score Michael Keefe and it was 2-0 Robbinsdale. In the 4th with the score 2-1, Robbinsdale got two more to take a 4-1 lead when Mayes doubled home Chris Massoglia and later scored on an error by Iowa's shortstop. Iowa came back with 3 in the bottom of the 4th, the last of which scored after Robbinsdale pitcher Nick Lauer apparently had Iowa's Cody Lambert struck out. The umpire ruled the belt-high down the middle pitch a ball. Later in the same at bat Lambert singled home the tying run. Iowa scored the winning run in the bottom of the 5th and Robbinsdale was held scoreless in the 6th.

Robbinsdale ends up the Midwest Regionals with a second place finish,
going 4-and-2 in the tournament. With the win Iowa avenges their opening game loss to Robbinsdale and moves on to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania beginning on August 20.
