Yanks comeback ends Twins season
After building a 5-1 lead that they took into the 8th inning, the Minnesota Twins were victimized by another Yankees comeback as they lost to New York 6-5 in 11 innings in Game 4 of their Divisional Series. The win by New York propelled them into the ALCS against Boston for the second straight season. The Yanks also beat the Twins in 4-games in the first round in 2003.
Johan Santana, pitching on 3 days rest, pitched the first 5 innings for Minnesota striking out 7 and allowing just one run before being removed from the game. Grant Balfour pitched two innings of scoreless relief before Juan Rincon entered in the 8th. Rincon was bombed for 4 runs in one-third of an inning including a 3-run homer by Ruben Sierra that tied the game at 5. Alex Rodriguez scored on a wild pitch in the 11th inning with the game winning run. Henry Blanco homered for the Twins in the 5th.
