Gophers Final Four Bound

The Gopher Women's Basketball team arrived at Williams Arena by police escort early Wednesday (March 31) morning. They were greeted by some three thousand loyal fans, some of whom waited for over two hours to welcome the team home. The celebration came in the wake of Minnesota's 82-75 win over top seeded Duke. Senior guard Lindsay Whalen scored 27 points and grabbed 6 rebounds and was named MVP of the regional. Janel McCarville scored 20 points and had 18 rebounds in the win. The victory put Minnesota in their first ever Final Four against the two-time defending national champions from Connecticut. A delegation from the Gopher Women's (National Championship) hockey team was also in attendance at the welcome home celebration. The program lasted for about 20 minutes.
