The team that was ranked number one in the state all year long, the Cougars of Centennial, finished things off at the Xcel Energy Center on Saturday March 13 as they beat Moorhead 1-0 in the class AA boys hockey state championship game. Goalie Greg Stutz pitched his third straight shutout in the tournament, having done the same thing to Holy Angels (2-0 in quarterfinals) and Wayzata (3-0 in semifinals). Mike Montgomery scored the game's lone goal for Centennial was the first time in tournament history that a team had recorded three straight shutouts to win the championship. They also finished the season with 27 straight wins and a 30-and-1 record.
